Meh.
The book reads like a mishmash of poorly-written harlequin romance, with all of the accompanying piled-on angst and contrived conflicts and a gratuitously-graphic - ahem - "thriller" novel. This mix is a poor one, and combined with the somewhat flat writing for me made reading the book quite a slog.
I also didn't like protagonist, Lacey Flint, which is made more problematic because she is also the narrator for much of the book. There is something about this character's affect that was always ...more

It started off okay and I was pulled in but then it got a bit slow so I was losing interest but it picked up again and I enjoyed it decently enough. Not a book I would run out and recommend but it wasn't awful.

I'm a huge fan of Bolton's stand alone books, so I was excited to read the first in her Lacey Flint series. Even though it was a little more gruesome than the books I usually read, Lacey is a fascinating main character and the story was completely riveting. Bolton's writing pulls you in and I found myself walking with Lacey through the streets of London, hearing the sounds, breathing in the smells, and experiencing the city in a new way. Can't wait to read more! 4.5 stars rounding up.
