More 3.5 stars but rounded up because Bahni Turpin has a wonderful narrative voice. And the subject is powerful. But YA is not really my thing even though I read quite a bit of it, and the first person POV bugs the hell out of me in general. It's so overused that I hate it even if it's reasonably well done, like it was in this book. Writing wise it didn't catch me unless it was talking about police brutality. That part is great. i loved this book. I can see why it got so much hype. i listened to it on audio and i think that made me love it even more.
