Starr is the MC. She lives in a rough area but goes to a fancy, majority white private school. While attending a party in her neighborhood, an incident occurs, so she and a childhood friend leave. Later they are pulled over and her friend is shot. We follow Starr through the aftermath, her struggles and issues living in two worlds, and the grand jury decision.
