Wow! This book really tackle a lot of topic people don't mind much or denies that it exists. This is a story of one young girl's witnessing of police brutality and institutional racism, the impact it has on her and her community and the consequences. A heavy read for a YA with powerful statements.

I added the book to my reading list on the basis of excellent readers' ratings. Almost everyone was reading this book a few months ago.
The book presents racism and its consequences. It also presents us the hardship of a teenage girl who loses her second good friend ... Interesting!

This book has all the makings of a classic and I am thinking about adopting it in class. It discusses racial discrimination, police violence and teenage life as a black person. I liked that everything wasn't painted black and white and that white people weren't portrayed as villians or left out completely of the narrative. Instead you get a glimpse into the hardship this girl and her family and neighbours are facing and it makes you think and these stories touch the heart.
