Wow! What a gut-punch book. I'm so glad I finally got around to reading it. I was amazed by the picture of self-loathing that Alexie paints as part of life on an Indian reservation. Arnold Spirit (a/k/a Junior) understands it only too well and does a brilliant job of showing the rest of us how dismal life on the rez can be, while at the same time showing its beauty and the love and pride Junior has in himself and his family despite their shortcomings.
