Ich mochte die Atmosphäre, das märchenhafte, den Winter, die Sagen, den Wald, etc. Die Charaktere waren ziemlich zweidimensional, aber haben in diesem Setting gut funktioniert, weil das ganze diesen Märchencharakter noch mehr betont haben.

Was ich nicht mochte, war die fehlende Struktur. Storystruktur existiert aus Gründen (auch wenn manche Menschen das Gegenteil behaupten) und einer der Gründe ist Pacing. Es passieren zwar immer mal wieder Dinge, aber sie bauen nicht aufeinander auf oder lösen ...more

This book had a gorgeous setting, it was very atmospheric and the author's prose was a delight to read. The characters were interesting - although the numerous nicknames initially made it a bit confusing eventually they resonate.
The struggle between the 'old' (pagan) and 'new' (christian) wasn't omnipresent and added to rather than distracted from the tale. While I understand this is a trilogy, the book ended on a satisfying note. ...more

I wish I came across this book when I was a child, it's so rich in vivid description of a land which promises of fairytales. The portrayal of Death (Morozko) and the demons and house elves were interesting. Would be looking forward to read the complete trilogy. ...more
