I think I loved this even more the second time around.

"The Bear and the Nightingale" is a book from the Russian folklore that the truth I have another book that I wasn't fond of the way the story made me despise the book, and I didn't pick up another with the same subject. But Katherine Arden does a remarkable job with the ambiance and the magical realism of the story.

An amazingly well-told fairy tale. Arden does a brilliant job of mixing together medieval Russia and Russian folk customs. I'm clearly in the minority for rating this book! I had trouble keeping up with who's who between all the spirits, creatures, etc. I did love Vasya as a character. I could read a few chapters and then put the book down for several days. The writing itself was very good, so perhaps this wasn't my cup of tea.

Very atmospheric of medieval Russian fairytales and an unbelievably well-written first novel!
