Oh I want to live in Wagtail!
I enjoyed this enough that I didn’t remember to take notes. Dogs were all through it which was so refreshing. So many cozy mysteries have a token dog so they can put one on the cover and sell more books. This story takes place in a companion animal lover’s dream world.
The mystery was good. The sheriff was young and brand new. It made sense why he was okay with an amateur detective doing a very little bit of the sleuthing although of course she did way more ...more

From the cover: Holly Miller's life has gone to the dogs. She has no job, her boyfriend's former flame is sniffing around, and a scruffy but loveable Jack Russell Terrier is scattering crumbs all over her borrowed car. Just when she thought things couldn't get worse, a troubling phone call about her grandmother sends her rushing home to the family inn on Wagtail Mountain. The staff—and a frisky Calico kitten named Twinkletoes—adopts Holly and her new dog on arrival. But someone in this friendly

I liked the characters, the town and the pets, so I'm looking forward to this series continuing. It did suffer a little from first book syndrome and having to explain everything. Also, no one seemed that broken up by the murders, which was a bit surprising. But I think it will pick up and I'm looking forward to the next one.

If you had a chance to start over, would you? Holly gets a frantic call from her Oma's friend that sends her back home to Wagtail. Only on the way, she acquires a dog and witnesses a car going over the edge. When she gets to Wagtail she finds that it has changed a lot and her dog is welcome at her Oma's Inn. She then gets involved in a mystery of who killed Sven and Jerry. She also becomes reacquainted with old friends.

Good first edition to a new series. I'm a really big fan of the author's Domestic Diva mysteries so my expectations were a little high. I enjoyed the small town setting, the inn and main characters- especially Holly, Oma and the cast of fun pets. I think the book may have contained a lot of extra characters that didn't quite pertain to the current storyline, especially getting use to a new series. I also didn't care for Holly's boyfriend. Their relationship didn't seem believable at all. Overall
