The story of several African American women hired to be computers at NACA, which later becomes NASA, during WWII. The women were all very talented mathematicians and in later years many went on to become engineers. I found the stories of these women's work to be fascinating and I'm surprised that before this book most people had never heard of the women computers. Excellent story of these women who worked for NACA and later NASA in Hampton, Virginia as human computers, doing complex calculations for the mostly white male engineers. The author focuses on four women and tells their stories, but she repeatedly tells the reader of the wide scope and hundreds of black women who filled these jobs.
