What an incredible story! Caroline Ferriday was an activist par none. The author does a wonderful job of documenting her life and experiences. Caroline campaigned tirelessly to help others orphans, women, other displaced persons but her work on behalf of the Polish women experimented on in Ravensbruck touched the hearts of many Americans. Firstly I think the cover is a little misleading because it's not really a depiction of at least one of the three women whose perspective we're allowed to see. That one is most definitely not a lilac girl as she turns out to be a Nazi doctor in a concentration camp that did gruesome experiments on her female prisoners. Secondly this is a book in search of an identity as it careens from chick lit to riveting holocaust drama depending on whose point of view is being highlighted. Thirdly, I wasn't

Didn't love the inclusion of Herta's perspective.
Didn't like the way chapters ended.
Dragged in some places.
