Enjoyable British cozy. I did have it figured out fairly early. Solid 3.5 stars.

I actually started this book a couple of months ago and then stalled out at the halfway point. Not because I didn't like it ... but this season of life has been really difficult on my reading. So, when I got a Kindle for Mother's Day, I decided to give it another go on the e-reader. And I flew through the rest of it! I didn't have the who-dun-it part figured out until the pieces started falling together. I like Georgie's character and am looking forward to seeing the kind of trouble she finds he

I have one gripe that I'll get out of the way first. At one point Georgie calls 999. I thought, no way, 999 didn't come around until the 1980's or 1990's. When I looked up the actual date I was surprised to find that it was initiated in 1937; however, that's still 5 years later than the book. Okay, with that out of the way, I can say that I really liked this cozy mystery. Loved Georgie, Darcy, and Belinda. Can't wait to read more!

Set during the 1930's, Georgie is 34th in line for the British throne. When she discovers there are secret plans to marry her to the cold fish prince of Romania she flees her families castle in Scotland for London. She then has to figure out a way to make money and learn household tasks like starting a fire. The Queen asks Georgie to spy on her son to see how attached he is to an American lady, Mrs. Simpson. Eventually a body shows up in the bathtub of the family house and Georgie works to save

While the book takes a long time to set up the mystery and its solution, I still found myself devouring this book late into the night, and I can't wait to read the rest in the series. How can I be so into a book where the plot doesn't happen until 2/3 of the way in? It's simply because Georgie is such a delight of a character. Funny, clever, and determined, she reminds me of Rebecca Bloomwood in the Shopaholic series (not in the shallow way, but in Georgie's similar resourcefulness). Most of the

In my quest to read the first of many series I own to see if I want to continue them, I read another by this author. More light-hearted than the Molly Murphy series, this one was fun & I felt like I was in a Carole Lombard movie with her attempting a British accent. It was a comedy of manners cozy mystery with some real menace at the end. An engaging heroine with a brain who tries to make the best of her reduced circumstances, she is plucky & resourceful. Just the right blend of fun & mystery.

It took a long time to get into this, and although it picked up nicely toward the end, not sure I would go out of my way to read another one in the series.

Really probably 3.5, but in this case I rounded up.
