I enjoyed this book despite the following:

1. The mom was OTT and really annoying.
2. You never really got full details on what happened to Audrey even though it is hinted at through the entire book.
3. The book is supposed to be about Audrey and her illness and how she learns to overcome the anxiety. But 90% of the book is actually centered around Frank and their mom. Audrey feels more like a secondary character.

I thought the narrator (Gemma Whelan) did a good job. And I loved Felix. Since I hav

Loved this! Such a good portrayal of someone with an anxiety disorder, brought on by a traumatic event. There is humor here, there is realism in Audrey's struggles, there is first-love, as well as hilarious snapshots of family life. I think Sophie Kinsella should write another YA novel. I liked Audrey better than some of her other heroines who are supposed to be adults. ...more

I'm not sure how realistic a portrayal this was of someone who is suffering from severe social anxiety due to a traumatic event, but I found it very interesting to read about. Also, despite the serious subject matter, this was a funny book! I constantly had to remind myself that I was on public transportation and that it would be embarrassing if I laughed out loud. ...more

Personally I loved reading this book. I found this book interesting. Once I got started I could not put the book down. Granted the mother was a bit crazy and.got on my nerves but other then that I liked it. People may have different opinions on how she wrote this but we all see things differently.

Audrey is a teenager struggling through a severe anxiety disorder and depression which came to a head after an "incident" at school that gets three girls expelled. (Sorry, you never find out what the incident is, just hints at it.)

Based on the official synopsis, it might sound like a story of "girl meets boy, girl gets over her mental issues, they live happily ever after." It is not nearly that simple. Audrey's story shows how crippling her problems can be and how hard recovery is, including th

Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors. This is the first of her forays into Young Adult fiction that I have read, and I hope it won't be the last. She does a really nice portrayal of a teen girl with social anxiety, taking it completely seriously without getting overly heavy. I would definitely recommend this to teens to help them understand those suffering from various forms of mental illness.

The only gripe I might have with this book is that the protagonist was brought out of her shell
