Overall, I enjoyed this book. It gave me a few good chuckles. I also enjoyed the introduction of this protagonist, Sophronia, and her allies.
I think Sophronia has potential to make a strong character. I also appreciated her friends and that some of them were male, and even that there was a bit of gender-bending among Sophronia's friends. I winced at the idea that sootie (one who works shoveling coal in the boiler room) Phineas B. Crow, having black skin (being of African heritage) was nicknamed ...more

I liked this book. Lots of secrets around and not so much etiquette, unless you call learning how to kill and protect yourself is etiquette.

I really liked the Parasol Protectorate series. It was fun, charming, quirky and fast paced. This has all of those things but with a younger protagonist who is as charming as lady Maccon but without the sexual tension that was evident in the adult series. I need a bit of tension, which is why it gets an "okay" rating. If I were a 13 year old girl it'd probably get an "enjoyed" or "really liked" it. But I'm not.

This was a fun, light (and quick!) read. I have recently finished the Parasol Protectorate series and was missing that fun steampunk world of vampires and werewolves. This series is definitely for a younger audience considering Sophronia is a 14 year old. This takes place before the events of Soulless but with some overlap of characters- Genevieve, Madame Lefoux and Lady Kingair (Lady Kingair as a teenager!). While not as enthralling as Lord Maccon and Alexia, this was still a fun story with ent

This books was very different that what I originally expected. It falls in a steampunk category, which I was definitely not counting on. It was good though! I found myself giggling at character's names and little jokes here and there in the story, so it was entertaining.
The only thing I'll say that is negative is that it took quite a while for me to get going with it. It is pretty slow until about halfway through.

Not bad, curious to see how the story progresses from here...
This was definitely a strange world, set in the past but also futuristic... steam punk???
Totally not what I was expecting but it was still quite interesting, could make an interesting movie if it was done right.
I will definitely continue the series because this could go in many directions and it has piqued my curiosity.
