I've not had the pleasure of reading Gail Carriger's adult series set in the same universe, so I'm pretty sure I missed a lot of the references to those books. I mean, I probably would have known what use a lady would have for a red doily and a lemon. And why a robin in a bowler (or was it robin in a bowl) would be dangerous. Despite that or probably because of it, I enjoyed this book.

I enjoyed it more towards the end than the beginning, because most of the book is explanation of the world rath

This book was good but it was better than I expected it to be.

I'm not one for steampunk books. I just don't like all the gadgets and inventions. The descriptions of these things confuse me and its hard to picture the gadgets and inventions in my mind. While the things can do awesome things, I don't like how technical everything is. This genre is just not for me.

I really enjoyed this book and I loved the pluckiness of the main character. The story reminded me of the Harry Potter books in some ways (unsuspecting girl sent to a school she knows nothing about that does not teach the expected subjects, etc.).

This was my first foray into steampunk and I think that I will seek out more by this author. Apparently, this is a Y.A. book set in the same world as an adult series Carriger has written.

Oh, just another home run from Gail Carriger. Funny, Snarky, Laugh-out-loud funny, I loved this book. It is also interesting to see some of the characters we will come to love in The Parasol Protectorate at a younger age. Highly, highly, highly recommended.

Hmmmm....this was my first experience with the Steampunk genre. I discovered I'm not very fond of it. While, I found it sort of interesting, I was put-off by the somewhat silliness of the plot of Etiquette and Espionage. I thought this book, if not for the Steampunk genre which could prove to be quite confusing to tweens, would be better suited for a juvenile audience rather than YA. Often, I was confused about all the "mechanics" going on and terms...I'm sure it's because I'm unfamiliar with th ...more
