Ceony Twill is a new graduate of the magical school Tagis Praff. She is assigned to be an apprentice of Folder Magician Emery Thane. Disappointed, she wanted to be a Smelter, but with too few magicians with this specialty, reluctantly, she is to be a Folder, too. The results may surprise her, and she may find that there is more to Folding than she thought possible. She may even find love, too. This is not origami, but a fantasy story that is delightful and yes, even magical. Looking forward to r

Nineteen-year-old Ceony Twill has graduated at the top of her class from the Tagis Praff School for the Magically Inclined, so it is with reluctance that she arrives at the home of Magician Emery Thane to begin her apprenticeship as a folder – a paper magician. She had always wanted to work with metal, but she was assigned here because of a shortage of magicians in this specialty; Thane is one of only twelve practicing this specialty. Her apprenticeship has barely begun, however, when an evil pr

**3.5 stars**
The beginning of the paper magician was a bit slow, specially with Ceony being such a brat but it definitely grew on me by the end.
In this world, magicians are tied to man made elements: metal, glass, paper, etc. Even though she dreamed of doing metal magic, Ceony is assigned to paper, the least glamorous of them all. She's of course, really mad about this and behaves like a spoiled brat when she first meets Thane. Even when she discovers something life-changing that he did for her ...more

It's so damned melodramatic.
A 19 years old girl falling in love with her teacher, who is... what? at least 25, most likely much older than that. ("He looked to be about 25 which meant this happened several years ago", or something like that.) And she ...more

3 1/2 stars. I liked but didn't love this book. It does, however, show promise as a series, so I plan to read the next.

This is one of those books I liked a lot but I think if I’d read it instead of listening to it then I wouldn’t have liked it as much. I loved the narrator! I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
