Think Princess Bride meets Harry Potter on horseback (without the magic). Loved it!

Loved, loved, loved this book! One of the best fantasy stories of finding oneself's true calling I have ever read. I love books that remind me of The Princess Bride and this one did that; I actually had many laugh out loud moments and when I wasn't laughing I was deeply engrossed in the thoughts of Will, the main character of this story.

There are not too many series where I actually want to read the next in line ...more

A rather typical intro to a longer phantasy series. Well written and proably a good read for YA. I based my stars on this. As a reading for an adult, I would score lower.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I loved the characters of Halt and the Baron. It was nice to watch Horace grow throughout the book. I will definitely be picking up the next book in this series. It was a nice light read that has great character development and hints at a more world building. I have high hopes that the story will get less childish as the characters themselves age.

I enjoy this genre so I picked up the book to try it out. I liked it! I thought the characters were believable and age appropriate and felt that there were good messages running throughout. I will keep reading the series.

This is not what I have been reading lately, but it is a good YA Fantasy, and I look forward to reading the next in the series to find out what happens to Will and his mentor.
Made me think of the Green Rider series by Kristen Britain or in a little way the Valdemar books or maybe the Obsidian Universe both by the amazing Mercedes Lackey ...more

This book has been on my TR list a very long while now. I finally decided to start it yesterday..... I am glad I did! This book basically sucks you in. It’s great! I can’t wait to read the rest of them!!
