The Lusitania was the passenger ship sunk by a German U boat during World War I. The fact that 123 Americans died threatened to force the United States' entry into World War I against Germany. Even when you know how the story will end, this book is a page-turner. The Lusitania, weighing more than 44,000 tons and one of the grandest of luxury liners, sank in approximately 25 minutes with a loss of 1,198 lives out of a total of 1,959 aboard. Informative book. I was aware of the sinking of Lusitania, but this book gives a much larger context. It was also not dry, as I have read Larson before and found his work so. It also contains a good example of just how petty Churchill was.

Incredible read. I'll admit it took me awhile to read the first 190 pages, took 2 days to read the rest. I'm not used to non-fiction, definitely not used to history. I shall read another Erik Larson! ...more
