A great start to a new series. I liked this even better than It Takes a Witch (A Wishcraft Mystery, #1) by Heather Blake . I really liked the characters and the fact the nemesis comes across like a real person, unlike some cozies. (view spoiler) I did figure out who-dunit pretty early but I hadn't reasoned out why. Carly Hartwell owns a shop in hitching Springs, Alabama where she makes magical potions to help people. One day she finds a dead man in her shop holding an empty potion bottle. of course her ex Dylan is the police officer assigned to the case. Carly decides she needs ot help investigate to clear her name. There were a lot of side characters including Carly's odd triplet aunts, her best friend who is married to a minister and her parents. I'm a huge fan of Blake's Wishcraft series so I was anxious to read her new Magic Potions series. It definitely did not disappoint. The first scene and chapter immediately grabbed my attention and kept me entertained until the very end. Blake is a master at creating quaint settings full of lovable and extremely quirky characters.
