Wow. This book packs a punch. I knew before I started reading that it was about race, but it is so much more than that. It's about sacrifice, parenthood, society, love, hate, and introspection. It's about being strong and also about being weak. This book pierced me in a permanent way, and I am better for it.

Jodi Picoult novels follow a similar formula including multiple POV and a slow unraveling of characters during a crisis. This one is no exception, so if you like her style and the way she weaves characters to and fro with a slow build to the climatic reveal, then you'll enjoy this one. I like her novels, but can't read them back-to-back because of the sameness of them.

This book pissed me off.... I wasn't going to say anything here at first but reading it all the way through- it's worth the read and Picoult is still a favorite...
