#1 in the Haunted Guesthouse Mystery series. Very cute! Not being interested in paranormal-type books as a rule, I was pleasantly surprised by this cozy mystery. Really enjoyed this debut mystery. The smart aleck shero is laugh-out-loud funny; she is skilfully rehabing this old house. Her daughter is charming, a believable character neither saccharine sweet nor bratty. There are enough suspects to keep you guessing and a few plot twists. Not a bad start, but I'm not that attached to the characters yet. I was happy to see a main cozy character with some common sense for a change. Someone realizing they aren't equipped to investigate a murder and it might be dangerous. But then, midway through the book, she seemed to lose it all. As for the mystery, it was ok, plenty of clues to lead you in the right direction. Not the best motive ever (but is there really a good motive for murder?).
