This classic has been sitting on my shelf for a while so I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. Although I was frustrated by a lot the decisions she made, Janie was a great character who was strong minded, adventurous, romantic and loving. You really want to root for her to get her happy ending. The men in her life are a whole other matter but you can understand what attracted her to each of them.

This is a book I re-read-the first time being a high school assignment. I was hoping to get more out of it the second time around but I didn't. The dialogue was just so hard for me to follow. Once I switched from reading to listening to the book, I enjoyed it more. At first, I did like the book, I couldn't read it, I tried many times over the years. But then I got it on audible, which helped me get through the book. But Janie did a lot of whiny (may have been the narrator) and depending on her husbands. This is just a beautiful book. A true classic. Hurston has a gift nearly unequaled in literary history. She puts you in the moment as very few others can. I was as exhausted and as glad to be home as Janie was by the end of the book. I wish I could mix up a cornbread to take to her house where I could sit on her back step and see how her life has gone since. A beautiful book.
