I loved this book. It's such a well written romance about a woman who lives her life as she wishes. Married three times, the last one is the love of her life. Her grandmother insisted on the first because she would have someone to take care of her once she died. Her parents had died earlier. Touching story, could relate to Janie And her struggles throughout her life.

From page 160 -- The wind came back with triple fury, and put out the light for the last time. They sat in company with the others in other shanties, their eyes straining against crude walls and their souls asking if He meant to measure their puny might against His. They seemed to be staring at the dark, but their eyes were watching God.
