Once again I'm in the minority but then again most young adult books don't appeal to me at all. I read this one because I needed a book with a bird on the cover (preferably a raven).
Gansey is obsessed with a Welsh King named Owen Glendower and he's convinced Glendower's body was buried along a ley line in Virginia. Now if only he could find it. Blue Sargent is a non-psychic in a family of psychics who sees Gansey in a "vision". She also has been told since a young age that "if Blue was to kiss ...more

31 Oct 2019: Just finished reading/listening and am mesmerized by the story once again. :)
Dec 2015: Maggie just released the cover for the final book in the cycle and I decided it's time to listen again to this series to prep for volume 4!
2012: I was mesmerized by this tale of four boys attending a privileged Virginia prep school who are looking for an ancient Welsh king along ley lines, assisted by a quirky local girl living in a house full of eccentric psychics. It starts out weird and gets de ...more

I thought I wouldn't like this book, but I absolutely loved it - I mean full-on, never-wanted-it-to-finish, loved it. The writing flowed so beautifully, the characters were unbelievably real, and the premise and setting was amazing. I am still stunned. I would never have picked this book up normally and I can't believe I would have missed out. It is the kind of book which leaves you feeling that no other book you pick up now is going to quite match up to it. But yay! There are two more in the se

3.5 stars. I listened to this book, because I was wary of the mixed reviews and I enjoyed it. It reminded me of Beautiful Creatures but with better writing, more interesting characters and no cryptic poetry/song lyrics. I didn't love the characters, but they were interesting, the prophesies and predictions were intriguing and the boys were such good friends. So I liked it in spite of the strange repetitive language, thoughtless and condescending speech, Gansey's ranting about the King and Blue's

I did not like this book at first, but it grew on me. The characters are a bit out of central casting. Blue is the only nonpsychic in a family of seers. All her life she's been told that if she kisses her true love, he will die. As the book opens, Blue sees the ghost of a young man named Gansey. Since she's not supposed to be able to see the dead, this means either he's her true love or she killed him. Gansey is the stereotypical rich boy in a prep school, sure that he can get whatever he wants
