Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo
The world is dying. A father and son are on a road traveling with a few other survivors. The sky spits grey snow. No animals have survived. The travelers have turned to cannibalism to survive. The boy’s mother has left; she suicides rather than going South with her husband and young son who is sick and hungry. McCarthy never tells the reader, whether Nature or Man has caused the world to die, he constructs a profound love story that is deeper than any other; the love of a parent for his child.

I tried to get into this book, but the style was just too dry for me. I was not fond of how the chapters and conversations were set up. There was no really a backstory as to how the world came to be the way it is (at least that I found but I did skip read a lot of it). Many may like this book but I need a bit more in books I read.

I did not like this book. The story was so dark and the writing was not my cup of tea (the characters had no names and when they were talking, there wasn't any indication of that). I also didn't like the swearing. All in all, not a book for me. ...more

It's clear I'm in a tiny minority here, but I really didn't like this book at all. I gave it 2 stars rather than just one because, once in a while, there were moments. But not enough of them, so the best I can say for the book was that it was a quick read. There were many intense or disturbing incideents, and several uplifting ones. But in my opinion, it didn't all fit into a meaningful whole.

There are two main characters -- a father and son -- in a desolate and dangerous post-apocalyptic world.

This was a thoroughly depressing book, the desolation felt by this man was overwhelming. I'm still not sure if the ending provided any hope or just more despair. ...more

Well, okay. Hmm. I knew the words "bleak" and "desolate" have been have been used to describe this book but didn't realize they only begin to characterize a physical and human landscape completely lacking in beauty, hope, and life beyond the barest struggle to survive. Not only that, I wasn't expecting horrors on par with anything I've previously read, with one notable exception I wish I could erase.

Rating this one is tough. Was it good? Yes, I suppose it was. Did I like it? I don't know if "lik

This novel completely surprised me. I did not know the background of the story prior to starting to read it. From the beginning the story captivated me and I was intrigued to see what would actually happen through out the story and how it would end.

One of my favourite aspects of the story was the lack of a timeline. There was no passing of seasons just day and night. It didn’t matter how long they had been walking just that they got up each day to do it.

I have never had a story make me reflect
