It's weird that I've been reading two books featuring killers who drive ice cream trucks. Neither was my top choice, but Mr. Mercedes was loaned to me by a friend and Whiskey Sour was selected for a reading challenge requiring a "lendable" book. It was between this one and a wide selection of... um... let's call them "steamy" titles.

I liked Jack and her partner, Herb. I liked Finn and the procedural aspects of the story, even if it had several cliches. I didn't care for the detailed descriptions of violence. It wasn't that the killing and torturing happened 'on screen' but the author certainly talked about it enough. It jarred with the sarcastic wit of the protagonist. I really, really enjoyed this read!!!! The last sleuth I read was Anita Blake and man, Anita has nothing on Jack. I found Jack to be a perfect balance of sarcasm and business. I actually enjoyed the alternating points of view between Jack and the killer (normally I don't like this). And just for the record, I am NEVER eating a bite sized piece of candy without cutting it open first again. This book has scarred me. WOW. I will definitely continue reading in this series! ...more
