Although this may not be considered a cozy mystery by some because of the gruesomeness of the murders, I've put it in this category because of the wonderful character building that is done in this book. Lieutenant Jack Daniels (Jacquelyn) is a funny, self-deprecating, capable detective who is involved in a deadly series of murders and is drawn intimately into the crime wave when the killer becomes obsessed with her. I didn't go in with any expectations as I hadn't heard of this author, and it was recommended to me because it fit a challenge task.
I was pleasantly surprised. Jack is tough as nails, and she definitely goes above and beyond for her job. That type of attitude is good when you have a very sadistic serial killer on the loose who has been raping and murdering women and is now fixated on you.
