This book is just affirmation of my love for historical fiction. The dual storyline is easy to follow - not just different title styles but obviously different characters. There is discomfort in some of the characters' choices throughout the story, but these choices were made in a different time in history. The use of the Doric language was easy to follow, although I admit I was translating in my mind. At times, I had to read the passage aloud to get the meaning. However, this does not distract ...more

Loved this magical family history story of a Scottish lass, her soldier and connections through time. This book tied history, literature to real people. It was a frame story and I became involved in both stories across time and wanted much for the characters. I have already started the second book and am hoping from more from this author.
