This is a quirky book about books, odd characters in a small town, and a girl who finds people who care about her. It starts out slowly and gradually builds to a loving, hilarious ending.
Sara, a lonely Swedish misfit, finds herself visiting small town Iowa. She and Amy, an elderly woman from the town of Broken Wheel, Iowa, have been corresponding with each other for two years. They met through a book that Amy sold, which Sara bought. Amy's letters talk about life through commentary about the boo ...more

I found this book to be ok. It talked about books which I love, of course, but I feel like there was something going on and it became too busy with it. I guess that's what happens in small town. Everyone has an input on who does what. All in all not a bad book. ...more

I really wanted to enjoy this book - I enjoy reading books about books. However, this one fell flat for me for several reasons:
1. The story was weak. Sarah arrives in Broken Wheel from Sweden only to find her pen pal Amy has died. She opens up a bookshop with Amy's books but, from what I can gather, not that many people in Broken Wheel are readers let alone recommenders of books. And the whole marriage idea? Ugh.
2. The characters are flat and stereotypes. There are many secondary characters but ...more

It took a bit for me to get into this book, I am not a huge fan of chick lit. It is a little slow for me and not much ever happens. The story was warm hearted and I basically only picked this up to fulfill a challenge but otherwise it might have been a DNF. I am glad I finished it because it turned out better than I thought.

This was good; surprisingly good! 2 long distance friends, Amy and Sara exchange letters about books and life. Amy, who lives in Iowa, invites Sara, who lives in Sweden, to come visit her. When Sarah arrives for her visit, Amy is dead and Sarah learns about Amy's friends and hometown, Broken Wheel, Iowa, through setting up a bookshop in Amy's memory.

Sara Lindqvist showed up in Broken Wheel, IA, from Sweden for a two month visit with her elderly pen pal only to arrive on the day of her funeral. The town is very small and dying. All the locals seem to know about Sara and welcome her, inviting her to stay in Amy's home. This is a heartwarming story about an eccentric town with great characters making room for a lonely book lover and a young woman who finally finds a place where she belongs.
