#1 in the Cyrus Mills series

I'd rate this 2.5 stars if I could. I read the 2nd book in this series a while ago and enjoyed it, I suppose because the characters and setting had already been introduced and fleshed out. But if I had read this book first, I'm not sure I would have continued with the series. Cyrus Mills is a bitter loner who has a grudge against his father, the beloved town vet who owned the practice that he recently left to Cyrus in his will. Real life vet specialist turns his hand to fiction. Writes about a vet who inherits his father's business.

What I liked about this book was the slight oddness about the plot & relationship development. Not everything went the way I would have expected Nick to take it but that's the nice part about a writer who isn't accustomed to fiction. You can't always predict where they'll take the story and I like that.
