Book on CD performed by C S E Cooney
Lou is struggling to get her French bistro Louella’s off the ground. Native Brit Al has landed in Milwaukee as a free-lance journalist, writing restaurant reviews under an assumed name. Al goes to Louella’s after receiving an anonymous tip, but it happens to be the same day that Lou found her fiancé with another woman and she is, frankly, a mess. The food suffers, and Al writes a scathing review. A few days later they meet in a bar – Lou is drowning her sorrow ...more

I'll admit, the cover art and the alliterative title drew me to this book. Since I don't usually read romance books, I wasn't sure about the content of the book, but I need not have worried. The story itself is rather cliche -- boy meets girl, boy wrongs girl, girl (eventually) finds out, boy tries to atone for his transgression -- but the writing made the predictability of the plot seem less important. Other readers might not enjoy all of the details about the dishes that were prepared over the

Oh dear. The Coincidence of Coconut Cakeis your typical and predictable romance story: boy meets girl, conflict arises that causes boy to lose girl, boy fixes conflict for the girl, and boy gets girl back.

This is a Shop Around the Corner/She Loves Me/You've Got Mail story. It's a well-used storyline as all these adaptions I mentioned indicate. So you know the story without me telling you. Is it worth reading? I saw it on a reading list from Off the Shelf called Librarian Picks: 10 Books I Would Prescribe to Cure the Blues. While I'm not blue, the author said, "As I’m hunkered down at home trying to wait out COVID-19, I’m thinking about special books that keep me going; books I love so much that I

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake is another book that takes you on a tourist and culinary tour of Milwaukee.
It is a book, that made me want to visit and try all the places Lou and Al went to.
I love when a book can teach and take me to places I have never been, and I might never visit.
It is a second chance book about relationships, about places of work, and about believing in yourself and proceeding and fulfilling your dream.
Yes, I watched the movie You’ve Got Mail many times and I can the connect ...more
