I started with Graves's Death by Chocolate series, which is the same characters as this series but taking place after this series ends. The first book in that series was rough and the second one was downright painful and so I put off starting this series, fearing it would be the same. To my surprise I really enjoyed it. The characters are well-developed and entertaining, the mystery was complex and involved, and Jacobia's investigations were natural and yielded clues from lots of different angle
