Mystical realism is not my favorite genre. If I was one to not finish a book, I would've stopped listening about 1/4 of the way in. I can't say it got any better or worse, it was just too long-winded and slow for my taste and I cannot imagine a middle schooler finishing it. But I read it because I needed a cover with ice cream on it for a challenge.
