I did not expect this book to be the tearjerker that it turned out to be.
Tbh, in its very early stages, the book felt very weird and juvenile. The author seemed like in a rush for things, jumping between scenes and at a loss for pauses. I couldn't grasp what he was trying to portray, even if it was as simple as showing A.J.'s life in disarray. I really enjoyed this book. The story is more character- than plot-driven, but the characters who people Alice Island are interesting and grow and interact realistically throughout the book. Although the characters drive the book, the plot lines are still solid enough to keep things moving and engage the reader.
I will read other books by this author.
