5 nerdy stars!
I did not expect this book to be the tearjerker that it turned out to be.
Tbh, in its very early stages, the book felt very weird and juvenile. The author seemed like in a rush for things, jumping between scenes and at a loss for pauses. I couldn't grasp what he was trying to portray, even if it was as simple as showing A.J.'s life in disarray. I thought it was going to the 3-star rack for sure and I'd be disappointed because it was something I had suggested for an upcoming (now ...more

It looks like the majority of the people out there LOVED this book. I thought it was good but certainly not great. I enjoyed the first half of the book a whole lot better than the second half. It became a little too cheesey and formulaic for me at times. A nice light read but nothing earth shattering.

No man is an island; every book is a world!
And what a world this one is. I knew nothing about this book coming into it, and I'm glad I didn't. Anything said about this book would be a spoiler, so I won't say much.
The characters are amazing, I loved them all for all their flaws and imperfections, their so very real feeling lives, their hearts. The setting sounds adorable, cute little New England town on an island, a dream to spend a life there. There is so much emotion in this book, good and ba ...more

I can see why this has been so popular in my Shelfari friend's feed.
It's another one of those heart-warming stories that in its own way is an homage to books, booksellers, readers and community.

I loved, loved, loved!! this story.
It's a gentle story about a book store owner, the baby he raises after she's left in one of the aisles in his bookstore, relationships, and of course, books! All a perfect combination, for something sappy, well-written and completely nice!
Yes, nice; it's what I needed right now and I hadn't realized just how cynical and "hard-edged and hard-hearted most of my reads had been in the last few months. This story was pure "let go and just come inside for awhile".
