What Members Thought

It looks like the majority of the people out there LOVED this book. I thought it was good but certainly not great. I enjoyed the first half of the book a whole lot better than the second half. It became a little too cheesey and formulaic for me at times. A nice light read but nothing earth shattering.

Something about this book didn't sit well with me. It could just be the mood I was in when I read it today, although I can't think of anything particular that would make me ornery. It could be that old faithful, "I don't like popular books" thing. I also generally don't enjoy books about books, because they never turn out the way I want them to (note that I don't know how I want them to turn out).

I can see why this has been so popular in my Shelfari friend's feed.
It's another one of those heart-warming stories that in its own way is an homage to books, booksellers, readers and community.

I loved, loved, loved!! this story.
It's a gentle story about a book store owner, the baby he raises after she's left in one of the aisles in his bookstore, relationships, and of course, books! All a perfect combination, for something sappy, well-written and completely nice!
Yes, nice; it's what I needed right now and I hadn't realized just how cynical and "hard-edged and hard-hearted most of my reads had been in the last few months. This story was pure "let go and just come inside for awhile".

This was a very quick read for me (started and finished it on a 4 hour flight) that I found quite enjoyable. It's the story of a widowed bookstore owner who undergoes a dramatic change in his life as the result of the influence of some important people in his life. It doesn't have a happy ending, but you were able to see how his life was not an unhappy one.
