When the police start investigating Amy’s apparent disappearance and try to determine if it is a kidnapping or a murder for which they haven’t yet found the body. It becomes crystal clear that Nick and Amy Dunne’s marriage has cracks unseen by friends and family. It’s very much a story of scenes from a marriage off the rails. My personal bias possibly kept me from enjoying it as much as I could have. I didn’t care for the constant switch from Nick’s point of view with the inves ...more

A begrudging four stars. Not quite my taste in stories, but extremely well-written. Except the ending. A lack of an ending is not, in fact, a way of finishing a story. I paid (or, well, my library paid) to get an entire story, not 95% of a story. Finish what you started!
Otherwise, I was highly amused at what I can only assume are Gillian Flynn's jabs at her copy editors. Twice, she talks about somebody "talking to Nick and me (yes, me is the correct word)" or "giving things to Nick and me (yes, ...more

This book was like watching a train wreck! The writing was so realistic and the characters' thoughts were so vividly portayed that it felt like I was a fly on the wall of a true crime story. It's the kind of book that makes you love, then hate, then maybe sympathize with (or not!) the characters in a hectic cycle. I really wanted to give it 4.5 stars because I was hoping for a slightly different ending, but it deserves being bumped up to 5 for writing style and suspense! I highly recommend it.

Wow. Much different than what I was expecting. I was glued to this book, couldn't put it down. It was twisty without being one of those plot twists you see coming a mile away.

I felt this book was off to a slow start, and then it hooked me.
Nick Dunn and his wife, Amy, are both writers in New York. When the economy takes a hit, they both lose their jobs. Nick’s beloved mother is stricken with cancer and, with nothing keeping them there, they leave New York and head for Nick’s hometown in Missouri. Nick uses money from Amy’s trust fund to set up a bar, which he runs with his twin sister, Margo. When Amy goes missing and there are signs of a struggle in the home, Nick is ...more

Besides the fact that I couldn't put this book down, it was "Amazing". It drew me in from the very first page. Here I'm reading and I'm loving the girl and feeling sorry for her in the meanwhile I'm hating the dude. Next thing you know Bam... It's crazy.

I can't quite place my finger on why I didn't like this book more; maybe it was because so many others talked it up so much that it simply didn't live up to my expectations. The middle was okay, but I barely made it through the first half and found myself wishing it was over about 50 pages before it actually was.

I don't even know what to say here. This was my second Gillian Flynn book. She seems to have a talent for making all of her characters unlikeable.
