Interesting series, I already plan on reading the second. Grim Reapers as real people has always been a fascinating concept for me.
Oh myyyyy goodness. I am all for humor, for books that have me giggling aloud. I am a huge fan of witty characters, puns, and sarcasm. But this was too much. TOO MUCH. So much that I became annoyed, quickly. And it was a struggle to get through this one. (Had it not been for needing this title to complete a reading challenge, I would have abandoned ship before page 50.)
First Grave on the Right is the first book by Darynda Jones that I have read, and while there were aspects of the book I really enjoyed, there were other things I found problematic. The protagonist, Charley Davidson, is very appealing--funny, self-aware, loyal, brave. She is also the grim reaper, so she not only sees dead people but also is responsible for helping the reluctant ones pass over. Charley Davidson is a grim reaper who assists the dead into the light. She has been able to see and communicate with the dead since birth. A few people believe her but most think she is loony. Her father and uncle, former and current police detectives, both do and use her information in solving cases.
