This is a charming and touching story about a family getting together at their summer home on Nantucket for the youngest daughter's wedding. The well-loved mother of the family died 7 years ago, so they are facing the family event without her. While she was alive, she put together a "notebook" with all her suggestions about the wedding, extremely detailed, down to the food they should order, the decorations/flowers Jenna should use, etc. I couldn't decide whether or not that bothered me. I really enjoy EH books. This was the best yet. I love the way she wrote these chapters, starting each new one with part of the notebook. You will have to read the book to find out what I mean.

I have to admit, I wasn't too sure about this book as I started reading it. But then, it really grew on me and I devoured the pages. There were some horrible, awful, selfish, characters who did some petty and despicable things, but there were enough characters I liked and that balanced things out. I really ended up liking Margot, flaws and all - at least she was pretty self-aware and realized her own shortcomings and strove to do better.

Beautiful Day was my first novel by author Elin Hilderbrand and I must say that she is an excellent writer. All of the Carmicheals and Grahams are gathering on Nantucket Island for a wedding. And many members of the wedding party have secrets. Will they be enough to derail the wedding?
I loved the way Hilderbrand uses the Notebook as a character. The Notebook is written by Jenna's mother, Beth, who died seven years prior. Beth details is really a plan for Jenna's Beautiful Day. Knowing that she ...more

I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway and absolutely loved it! I've read books by Elin Hilderbrand before, but this is by far my favorite. I loved the fact that it took place over one weekend and I thought it was clever that the story was told from the point of view of the guests and not the bride and groom - who would typically have been considered the main characters. Highly recommend this book - especially good to bring on vacation!
