It's an okay story, not quite to my liking. I sincerely doubt that I will remember much of it in a while.

I've known for a long time that I don't like funny stories. I find them funny very rarely, and more often I find them irritating. But every now and then I read something funny anyway and very, very rarely come across something that really amuses me. But unfortunately this is not one of those rare cases. I may have giggled a few times, but Indy is just annoying most of the time.

Indy could be a strong heroine, she is financially independent, runs her own business and has a temper. But, unfortunately, she is just the typical romance heroine who can't help but do stupid things and who loses the last bit of intelligence at the sight of her beloved man. Seriously, at the sight of Lee, Indy becomes a muddy mass of lace lingerie and erotic fantasies.

Which is why I completely don't understand why I actually like Indy and Lee as a couple. I find them cute together. I don't really know why, it's not that I like these two characters separately. But together for some reason they make an excellent duo for me that I wanted to read about. No, I don't understand it at all. Okay, I guess I have a slight weakness for romances in which both lovers have been in love with each other for years. But still, I don't understand my own reaction. Especially since I'm not too impressed with Lee either. This guy is way too mysterious. I've read the entire book and still don't know what he does for a living. Actually, I just don't know much about him, about his personality, dreams, thoughts and feelings. But that's the curse of the first-person narrative from Indy's point of view. Another thing I don’t really like.

The suspense thread is fine, quite interesting, but not truly unique or imaginative. Honestly, I read this book a few days ago and the plot details are already starting to blur from my mind. This is one of those stories. So far, I do remember pretty well that Indy was acting quite irrational and looking for trouble.

But somehow I liked these characters, especially guys. And now I want to read their stories. So it is possible that I will read other books in this series soon. Well, as soon as I forget that I don't like funny books and how annoying are girls in this book. ...more

I loved this book...Indy comes to her best friend's brother for help when she and a friend are shot at. Lee Nightingale...yummy Alpha, ex-military and runs a PI/security/not sure what he does type of firm. Indy is hilarious and I so enjoyed seeing all the trouble she gets herself into and Lee gets her out of. This is the first book in the series and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series. 12/29/24 to 12/31/24 - 5 stars - This book hit the spot for me this time. Now that I've read all of the books in this series, I know Indy better and can understand her lifestyle, her fun personality, and her exuberance. She is an action girl (as she puts it), always on the lookout to keep busy, have adventures, and live life to the fullest. Often, these traits put her in danger (that could have been avoided) or embarrassing situations (which don't seem to bother her). #1 in the Rock Chick series

12/29/24 to 12/31/24 - 5 stars - This book hit the spot for me this time. Often, these traits put her in danger (that could have been avoided) or embarrassing situations (which don't seem to bother her). In this book alone, she was shot at, kidnapped, chased bad guys, been in a bar fight, run a chaotic business, participated in family events, and gotten involved in a serious relationship with the love of her life, Lee. I loved Lee, who is a total badass with a quiet sexy voice (nice job, Susannah Jones). He does his best to protect Indy, but she resists all advice or any whiff of bossiness. I couldn't stop listening to this book and got through it in only a couple of days, thanks especially to the perky and enthusiastic narration. Susannah is a master at expressive voices, with her male voices being very believable. This book made me laugh all the way through. Here are just a couple of the turns of phrases that I found hilarious:
When there was a ruckus at a gay bar when Indy was singing with Todd/Burgundy and Lee helps get their friends and family away from danger: "He'll be OK. You wouldn't want a man who wouldn't go back to save someone's mother and a drag queen."
When Indy was running down the street while wearing flipflops: "I was flipping and flopping down the block double time."

7/28/16 to 8/12/16 - 4 stars - I went back and forth about this one but finally settled on a 4-star rating because overall I enjoyed listening and laughed many times. My biggest problem were the 2 main characters, who were alternately enjoyable and annoying. Indie is the ultimate rock chick, which means she's tough, outgoing, and pretty crazy. But her attitude, while amusing, made her seem much more like a 14- or 16-year old rather than the 30 she is supposed to be. She would invariably go off half-cocked to save the day, usually causing way more trouble than she was worth. Plus she says she's been in love with her best friend's brother Liam since she was 5. But when Lee actually wants to get together with her, she's hesitant and totally indecisive about it. Kind of like a child who wants a toy, but when they actually get it, they find they really didn't want it as much as they thought. Her redeeming feature is that she cares--about those around her and about right from wrong. She's very close to her family and loyal to her friends. Although she's a total loose cannon, her overall niceness attracted me. Lee is all hot alpha bad-ass guy with a dangerous kind of surveillance job. I liked him at first and sympathized with his frustration over Indie never doing what she's told. And since he was protecting her, you'd think she'd pay attention. But after a while, he became Mr. Bossy and Possessive, actually telling her what to do and deciding their futures without even asking her. "We're moving in together this weekend." "You'll be in my bed tonight." Blah-blah. It got old real fast. Soooo, all that being said, the "mystery" of the diamonds and Rosie's whereabouts was actually kind of fun, and Indie's exploits were told in a very entertaining manner (like kidnapping, gunshots, wrestling, etc.) It was all so hilariously unbelievable that suspending belief about Indie's actual age seemed easy. Secondary characters of Hank (Lee's brother the cop), Eddie (Lee's friend the cop), Darius (Lee's bad-ass friend), Stevie and Todd (Indie's neighbors), Allie (Indie's BFF and Lee's sister), and Tex, Duke, and Jane (Indie's employees at the bookstore) are all extremely amusing and made me laugh out loud many times. Susannah Jones did a great job narrating, with good and varied voicing. She definitely conveys Indie's attitude in a fun way, without going over the top. And Lee's voice, while not exactly male, was quiet and sexy enough to do the trick. I intend to continue with this series on audio. ...more

I bought this book on a whim when it was the kindle deal of the day a little while ago and delving in, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I actually ended up quite enjoying it though I was also thoroughly exhausted by the end of it as though the book essentially takes place over 5-6 days top, the sheer amount of action and trouble the author managed to put the main characters through was off the charts, though admittedly a lot of fun to read.
