Great classic mystery/crime novel which introduced Ellery Queen, detective and Ellery Queen, author to the world according to the dust jacket. Brought me back to my younger days when my mother's Ellery Queen magazine would arrive in the mail and I would read it cover to cover. The Roman Hat Mystery was written in 1929 and brings the reader back to a more elegant time in New York City when men wore full dress clothes and silk top hats to the theater. 3.0, possibly 3.5 stars - Although I am familiar with the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine from years ago, I had never read one of the actual detective stories. This takes place in NYC in the late 20s, and stars father and son, Richard and Ellery Queen. It is definitely a product of its time, in language, social mores, dress and more.
