This novel is just okay. Nothing great, nothing horrible. It really read as a young adult novel for me, and since 216 other Goodreads users have shelved it that way, I'm not sure why it wasn't marketed as one. It's very simple, and from the perspective of an 11-year-old girl who has trouble fitting in at school and has a crush on a boy in her class. This book was o.k. Part of it I could definitely relate to and feel right along with the narrator, an 11 (turned 12) year old girl. It brought back some memories of the pre-teen years I'd rather forget. I definitely could relate to Julia with feeling alone and the awkwardness of talking to one of the opposite sex. The relationships in this novel are the best part about it. Having a connection to your narrator is definitely a plus.

Very good easy-to-read novel describing the future of civilization as the earth begins to slow in its rotation. The key to the book was the growth of a pre-teen and her reactions to growing up in a changing environment. However, one of the most compelling aspects was the descriptions of the changes in lifestyle and day-to-day living in a doom-filled environment.

Some of this book was amazing. I mean imagine being 12 years old and the world completely changing. But while I liked this book overall I do wish it had told more about after she grew up or the time between 12 and growing up. But a pretty good dystopian book.
