I love this author’s China Bayles series, so I was eager to start this series too. Even though I love hearing Chet’s POV in the Spencer Quinn series, the talking animals in this book weren’t so appealing – maybe because Chet tells the entire story, and the animal POVs here alternate with the humans?
Otherwise, I liked most of the characters (but that headmistress, yikes!!) and the way the majority of them came to accept newcomers to their village. There were some who weren’t ...more

In 1905 Sawrey, England, Beatrix Potter has just purchased a small farm and has come to town to check it out. She brings along 4 of her animal friends. The place where she has rented a room, however, is not available because the owner has died. Her visit and the death are big news in this small village. Who will inherit the cottage? Was the death really a heart attack? What will happen to the Jennings family, now residing and managing Beatrix’s farm? And many other questions fuel the wonderings

This is a fun story. Based on fact with some fantasy added in. It's sort of an adult escape. I'm looking forward to reading on in this series. Just nice light fun.

I enjoyed some of the characters, including Beatrix and the multiple cats. It's a slight book but sometimes that's a good thing. The bad guys get caught. The one thing that irritated me as an allergic person was that the cats were shown to be vindictive towards the allergic lady, which is horrible because a) the cats are anthropomorphized and because of this b) this shows author intent. Most people aren't sympathetic when they themselves are not allergic, but most people don't play it for laughs

I really liked this book. It was enchanting with the animals; I enjoyed reading Beatrix Potter books to my children. It was a good mystery as well.

A very cute mystery, if you don't have a problem with talking animals. :D It made me want to read about the actual life of Beatrix Potter.
