This was a great book. It shows that Alzheimer effects everyone in the family and they all need to talk to someone to help them get through it together. It was mind blowing story. I found that even though people tried to help Alice by making her repeat things so she would not forget I think what they should have done was try be with her as much as possible, make new memories with her and enjoy just being with her. She was a strong, educated woman who's lost who she was and no matter what medicat

Wow. I’ve already seen the movie, but reading the book was an even more emotional journey. Very powerful and eye-opening story about Alzheimer’s disease.

This was a short book with a powerful message. I found myself crying at multiple parts (sobbing really) because watching Alice's mental deterioration from her perspective was so heart wrenching. And that is what made this story so compelling-it was told from Alice's perspective as she progresses with memory loss after her diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer's. How many times can I cry to a seven and a half hour audio? Many is the answer. Not a total weep fest but a tearjerker nonetheless. This was a moving story of one woman's deterioration, and her and her family's coping with the inevitable.
I really enjoyed the audio version. The author read it and she has a lovely, easy to listen to voice. I would highly recommend it. The story never dragged or felt like a chore. I connected with all of the main characters. Even when they seemed to be selfish jerk ...more

This is a book with a very heavy subject. It was a bit depressing at times, as it should be. Despite that, the author managed to keep it at a good and interesting level and it was even hopeful.

I'd already seen the movie but decided I wanted to read the book. reading the book was ten times better. reading how the Alzheimer's affected Alice had me in tears at some points. words are so much better at relating someone's personal feelings on the subject matter. my own mother had Alzheimer's and this book has given me a deeper insight into what my mother must have been going through. fantastic writing and well though out story. i would recommend this book to everyone but especially those wi

I read this book back in 2008 as an advanced reader copy and loved it. It is a heartbreaking story about early onset Alzheimer's Disease and the toll it takes on both the victim - a brilliant Harvard professor - and her family. Lisa Genova writes what she knows and I think she did a brilliant job here.
