Night is a memoir about the author’s experience growing up as a Jewish boy in Eastern Europe and the hardships that he faced in concentration camps during the Nazi’s control of the region. It is a first hand account and the tales that he describes can be quite emotional.

Nothing, just read it and think about it! The world would be a much better place if everyone did and tried to prevent these things ever happening again.

Eliezer (Elie) tells of his year in concentration camps. These are the types of books one must read on their own. He does note in his preface that the book was reduced in length, I wish it had been allowed to remain as he had written before the editors got to it.

In his preface he makes the following statement:
'In the beginning there was faith-which is childish; trust-which is vain; and illusion-which is dangerous.

I find it so difficult to read anything about the Holocaust. (I was not able to bring myself to visit Auschwitz when I went to Krakow.) But, I know it is imperative to remember and when I saw that Elie Weisel had written his memoir of his experience, I knew this was the book to read. It is a very thorough examination of his survival through several concentration camps- which may have only happened because he was so driven to save his father.
