This was one strange little book.

For a children's book, I thought Coraline had some huge amount of creepiness. Not fluffy creepy, or nice creepy; it was honestly creepy.
I'm not sure how I feel about it though. Sure, it was an enjoyable read, but as its the norm for me with Neil Gaiman's MCs, I did not connect with Coraline on any level whatsoever. She felt so far away to me without any real character.

Coraline has a great story and lessons. It is indeed a children fairytale with a scary twist. I loved the world in which the Author created and the characters. I already watched the film but the book was also great so far. I would definitely reread it someday.

I didn't actually read this version of the book. I listened to a narration of it at the NYPL website. It was read by Neil Gaiman, LeVar Burton, Rosario Dawson, and Dakota Fanning. They each read a few chapters over the course of a week. A fun quarantine kind of thing!

This is NOT a children's book. Its engaging, enlightening and bold. Neil does not shy away from painting a horrific picture through words. Noe that I've finally read it, I understand the hype.
