'Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.'
- G.K. Chesterton
While I have not watched the movie, I can certainly see why this story was turned into a blockbuster 3D stop-motion movie. The adventure that young Coraline sets off and discovers in the confines of her home are made of what could easily be kids nightmares.

2.5 stars.
I listened to the audio version of it. I loved how creepy the rats were with their awful songs. Although the audiobook was well read, and I loved that it was read by the author, the story wasn't very engaging. ...more

I had mentioned in my earlier review of this book that I wouldn't read it to my child, I lasted close to 8 years before deciding to give my child nightmares. (In a Neil Gaiman double whammy - I've got Graveyard Book after this, poor child). But my son is very sensible - but mommy, she could have avoided all of this if she'd just not opened the door. But she did open the door and now she needs to fix it. And she does it very well. I especially liked Coraline when she says that I don't want everyt

It is always a thrilling experience to read books written by Neil Gaiman. I became a fan of his work when I first read - American Gods. Since then, all the books that I have read written by him, has only deepened my respect for the way he crafts his stories and the subject matter he writes on. Coraline is no exception. It is a short yet a fascinating story. I had a blast breezing through it. Fantastic.
I loved this! Once you can get through the really creepy parts it is a wonderful fairy tale. "Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist; but because they can tell us that dragons can be beaten" - GK Chesterton

This is the first audio book that I have ever listened too. I really like the narrator he did a great job of keeping you interested and modifying his voice for the different characters.
Coraline was a little girl that loved to explore. One day she found a door that went to a brick wall in her house. Soon she started seeing strange things. Then one day her mom goes to the store and leaves Coraline home. As Coraline goes exploring she opens the door to discover the brick wall is gone on the other ...more

Yet again I fail to be wowed by Neil Gaiman. Try as I might, I just can't "discover" what makes people love him even though my tastes overlap his fans greatly.
It's a decent story but not all that either. ...more
