Yikes. This is no book I would give my kid (imaginary for now) to read. Not unless I want to deal with their nightmares.

5 stars. I haven't read a children's book in a very, very long time but I had to read this because it's Neil Gaiman (who I'm currently obsessing over). I have no regrets, this was pretty freaking great! I enjoyed this immensely from beginning to end and I definitely get why it's so critically praised.

Coraline and her parents buy a flat in an old house. A pair of retired actresses live in the basement flat and an old man who says he is training mice for a circus act lives in the attic flat. The fourth flat is still for sale and the connecting door between Coraline's and it is bricked up and locked. After hearing some mysterious noises one night she unlocks the door to find the wall missing and enters an apartment that is like hers but not quite.
