Yikes. This is no book I would give my kid (imaginary for now) to read. Not unless I want to deal with their nightmares.

5 stars. I haven't read a children's book in a very, very long time but I had to read this because it's Neil Gaiman (who I'm currently obsessing over). I have no regrets, this was pretty freaking great! I enjoyed this immensely from beginning to end and I definitely get why it's so critically praised.

Coraline and her parents buy a flat in an old house. A pair of retired actresses live in the basement flat and an old man who says he is training mice for a circus act lives in the attic flat. The fourth flat is still for sale and the connecting door between Coraline's and it is bricked up and locked.
