In uncertain times like these. This is exactly the sort of book we should be reading. The type of book that gives you a warm feeling of peace and contentment.
Romance is not a preferred genre of mine but I do make an exception for romances about older people and second chance love. I don't know what it is about this theme but its one that can't help but make me smile.

his is a gentle story of middle-aged love. Major Pettigrew, a British widower, has recently lost his brother. His son is caught up in his own ambitious career life. One day the Major accepts a ride from the Pakistani shopkeeper in the village, Mrs. Ali. To the Major's surprise, the two seem to have much in common, books and family lives. Gradually friendship and love begins to develop. But the path will not run smoothly as the demands of family interfere and cultural prejudices appear.

I saw the chatter about Helen's 2nd novel coming out soon so I decided to pick up the much lauded first novel and see what it was all about.
It's what the synopsis promises. A story about a British widower rather set in his stodgy ways, being drawn out of his comfort zone. His eyes are opened to the larger world around him particularly with the help of the Indian widow who runs the corner shop.
