This book follows the daily life of a 60+ widower in a small village in the south of England and the troubles he encounters along the way. It is a quiet story with not a lot going on but it is brilliantly written with beautiful words and delightful wit. The humor of the the Major is spot on for English humor.

Really liked this book. It is a bit slow and very descriptive, so it that annoys you, this is not the book for you. But you do get to know these characters well and you cannot help but love them (some of them).
Oh, this is a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful book.
I love the characters, the story, the pacing, the writing. I just love it all. I closed the book feeling happy, sad, satisfied, just a wonderful experience.
