My book club read this again (new generation) so I had to as well. It's hard for me to read about kids mistreated by well-intentioned adults, because it parallels my kids' experiences. So part of me keeps trying to fix things -- why does the mom just keep telling her daughter to behave and not even try to touch the bullying? But the story is from Hazel's perspective, so even if the mom was trying Hazel would not see it.
